Many think of “vocation” as their job, but the word means “calling.” It points to the fact that God has a calling for each of us. It may entail the place of our employment, but it is much more. God had a calling upon David to be King.  It wasn’t obvious to his family and not even Samuel. Yet, we measure externals and God looks at the heart. Dr. John uses the early life of David as a template for us all. God has a purpose for us and that purpose surfaces as we yield to God from the heart.
